9Archives of Modern History Records
The building of the Archives of Modern History Records was originally built by the Ministry of Finance Temporary Construction Division to serve as the Monopoly Corporation's tobacco plant. Construction started in 1911 and completed in 1913. The original building was a corridor type and was demolished in 1973 upon the relocation of the factory, but the current building on the east side was transferred to Kanazawa City and was preserved and restored as the library annex. At the time of the renovation, the exterior and roof were restored to preserve the old appearance where possible. The old wooden and steel structure was removed and newly constructed using Rahmen structure with reinforced concrete.
The building became a Kanazawa City designated preservation building in 1984 and received a designation of registration to the cultural property registry of the Agency for Cultural Affairs in 1996. The internal repair work was conducted in 1999.
