6Tamagawa Library(Outward Appearance)
The Archives of Modern History Records and the Tamagawa Library Main Building (hereinafter referred to as the Main Building) have contrasting outward designs. Where the Archives of Modern History Records has finely chiseled expressions such as cornices and arches, the Main Building has a simple rectangular cuboid shape with as little intricate detail as possible. Corten steel is used for the outer wall of the Main Building. This special steel has a coating of rust on the surface that acts as a protective layer, inhibiting the progress of rust and protecting the inside of the material. Even the exact color changes that will occur with the passing years have been calculated.
